Kirra Surf Life Saving Club is the second oldest club in Queensland and owes its beginnings to a tragedy that occured on January 6th, 1916.
On that day two friends went swimming on the unpatrolled beach and immediately got into trouble. Sadly one of the friends drowned. The local community acted swiftly and a public meeting was called on January 7th 1916 where it was decided that the Kirra Surf Life Saving Club be formed.
The Mission statement for the Kirra SLSC is 'to serve the bathing public of Kirra beach and its surrounding areas by protecting life, preserving safety and preventing incidents by proactive and contemporary lifesaving practices through vigilance and service.'
