The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend and Band of Horses are some of the big names confirmed to play the 2013 Big Day Out.
In what will be the Big Day Out’s 21st anniversary, the festival giant is making a clean start with a bill comprised largely of fresh faces and acts who’ve never graced the BDO stage before. Thirty acts have never before played the Big Day Out, a list that includes Animal Collective, B.o.B., Sleigh Bells and Foals. And there’s six acts – Alabama Shakes among them – who have never before made the trip Down Under.
Most artists in the top half of the bill have new albums on the slate, which means Australian audiences should get an early taste of a lot of new music. “It’s a transition year,” explains BDO founder Ken West in an exclusive interview with TMN. “It had goals to kick, which was primarily that we needed to deliver a clean, new generation statement about what the Big Day Out is without the emotional baggage of the relationships of the past.”
