Take a guided tour through the ANZAC Cottage and learn the history behind the 'house that was built in a day'.
Anne Chapple, granddaughter of Private Porter and Secretary of the Friends of ANZAC Cottage, will share the story of this special Mount Hawthorn house. Anne's association with the Cottage for her whole life lends a very personal insight into the Cottage, the Porter family and the Cottage's history
ANZAC Cottage was built in one day, 12 February 1916, by the community of Mount Hawthorn as a home for returned soldier Private Porter and his family, and as a memorial for those who lost their lives in the tragic Gallipoli landing.
The cottage was State Heritage listed in 2000 and is also recognised on the Register of the National Estate and classified by the National Trust. See full place details on the National Trust website.
Please note that bookings are essential. By booking your place on the National Trust website for Sunday June 12, 2022, you can learn the details of this inspiring story. Book for either the 2-3pm time slot or 3-4 pm. Email friendsofanzaccottage@gmail.com for more information.
